White County Middle School Warriors win 3

On Monday, the White County Middle School baseball team traveled to Macon County where they were in jeopardy of starting the week on the losing side of a close game. However, with the game tied at 2 in the top of the eighth inning, Kolt Norris singled driving in the go-ahead run. In what was a pitchers’ duel, with Warrior pitchers combining to strike out 10 while Macon County’s pitchers put together 16, it was a series of bad pitches and defensive miscues that allowed White County to get the win.

After C. Goodwin, a courtesy runner for Ben McAfee who had singled to start the eighth inning, was able to advance to second on a wild pitch, he was then caught attempting to steal third base. However, Gage Walker, who had earned a base on balls, was awarded second on a defensive interference call. Walker was then able to score on a long single by Kolt Norris.

The Warriors followed up Monday’s dramatic win with another emotional win, on Tuesday. Trailing Avery Trace 2 – 1 in the fifth, Griffin Adams hit a home run, his first of his middle school career, to even the score. White County took the lead in the sixth inning after Clay Brewington singled, Walker was hit by a pitch, and Adams walked and all three ultimately scored.

On Thursday, White County took on Avery Trace for a second time and came away with a commanding 11-4 victory thanks to a big second inning. While Avery Trace got on the board first, scoring two runs, the Warriors put the game away an inning later with an eight-run second inning.

McAfee led off the big inning with a four-pitch walk but was quickly replaced by a pinch runner who was able to score when Nicholas hit a double on a hard ground ball into left field. After Shannon was hit by a pitch and Walker took first on a poorly thrown 3-2 pitch, Matthew Wilson drove in two runs on a hard-hit ball into center field. With runners on second and third, Adams drew a walk to load the bases. An error by the Avery Trace pitcher allowed Brewington to reach first, Walker to score. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Burchett put another run on the board. A single by Nicholas, who hit twice in the same inning, resulted in another two runs.

Over all, the Warriors had 11 runs on six hits while Avery Trace was only able to score 4 runs on four hits Thursday night. Wilson got the win on the mound for White County, pitching 2.1 innings giving up 2 runs, 2 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 2 batters. Walker got credited with the save for his 2.1 innings worth of work in which he allowed 1 hit but no runs and struck out three.
