The White County Archery teams are headed to the world championships in Myrtle Beach. The high school and middle school archery teams recently competed at Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, where they competed in both 3S and Bullseye competitions and posted scores that qualified them to advance to the next level of competition.
In 3D competition, the high school team placed 94th out of 162 teams putting up a score of 1623. Justin Cannon was the team’s highest scorer earning the rank of 37 out of 1160 high school boys. Along with Cannon’s high score, both Addie King and Dillon Hutson shot personal bests while at nationals.
On the middle school side of things, the Warriors placed 50th out of 152 teams with a combined score of 1614. Sami Benson scored a 279 and placed 61st out of 1221 middle school girls while Kaiden Young shot a 281 which was good enough to be ranked 56th out of 1385 boys. Young and Benson’s scores were personal bests as were the scores posted by Cannon Dildine and Luke Benson.
In Bullseye competition, it was Camden Ryan who shot a personal best of 293 to place 23rd out of 2554 high school boys. Cannon also placed in the top 100, with a score of 290 to put him at 97. The team saw three members of their girls team put up personal bests as well: Leeah Paul, Rebecca Phipps, and Addie King. The Warriors strong showing was enough to give them a combined score of 3168 and place them 198th out of the 265 teams present.
The middle school team placed 161st out of 252 teams with a combined score of 3119. Once again it was Sami Benson and Kaiden Young leading the way. Benson scored a 282 to place 78th out of 2521 middle school girls. Young shot a 280 and was ranked 192nd out of 2891 middle school boys. Caleb Morre joined Young as one of the nation’s top male shooters, scoring 277 to finish 277th out of 2891. Joining White County Middle School’s top three shooters in setting personal bests last weekend was Luke Benson.
“I am unbelievably proud of each of these archers for an amazing season. Their season is months longer than most sports, but they have continued to commit their talents to themselves and their teams,” coach Mickye Steele said that she couldn’t be prouder of the way the teams performed at the national meet. “I am looking forward to the coming years with this group of archers “
The Archery World Championships will take place June 5 – 7 at the convention center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
