Young Man Travels the Globe to Win Competition

One young Warrior recently returned home after representing White County and bringing home the title of “Champion” overseas. Jaxon Matthews earned six medals while at the Martial Arts World Championship in Austria, two gold medals among them. Coupled with two beautifully earned belts, Matthews reflected fondly on the trip, both the competition, and getting to see so much of Europe.

During the competition, one of Matthews favorite things to do was trying to trade shirts with other competitors. Even though there was a tough language barrier, given it’s a global event, he still managed to walk away with 4 shirts from other represented countries, such as a shirt from the Philippines. He had to face many, many opponents from all walks of life to earn his champion titles, and one of his favorite opponents was a German boy he got to square off with.

Matthews is no stranger to this, either. The young man has been training extensively for years to master his art. Back in 2024, for example, he similarly took home multiple gold medals while in the Czech Republic.

“I want to thank my mom and my dad,” said Matthews. “And the sponsors that help me, and the coaches for training.”

The Championship itself was exciting, but Matthews also got to see all sorts of sights while away in Europe. One such sight was a massive slide that drew his attention at a zoo up on a mountain. They took a lift up the mountain, and Matthews knew the second he saw a slide that large, he had to give it a whirl. He also enjoyed getting to hike with llamas in Switzerland.

This championship will not be Matthews last. He is just as excited for next year and is already hoping for a specific location too. While it has not been announced yet, Matthews is hoping it will take place in either Portugal or Spain, as he has not gotten to be in that area of Europe as much yet.

Jaxon Matthews once again came home a World Champion, proving himself to be an athlete full of talent and determination. The Expositor was proud to speak with him, and we hope he continues his martial arts journey for years to come. Congratulations, Jaxon!
