Airport fuel sales have increased more than $1,000 from same time last year

 Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board of Directors met in regular session Sept. 9.

Fuel sales through August are up almost $1,300 compared to last year. The airport is moving forward on selling an abandoned Lear Jet on GovDeals. The board received an update on Tennessee Department of Transportation correcting striping problems covered by warranty.

In other business, the board approved solicitation of bids for the t-hangar project. The project will be completely paid for by pre-selling leases for at least 10 of the units to be built.

The board approved spending up to $45,000 to purchase three vehicles to be utilized as courtesy/rental vehicles. The board approved the Hudson Lease which will add some new hangars and infrastructure through a pre-paid ground lease with a private individual. Airport Manager Dean Selby informed the board he is working on a similar lease agreement with another individual to add a hangar for a larger aircraft that would continue the expansion further.

Richard Rinks, engineer, informed the board that removal of the underground fuel tanks and systems has begun, and some ground contamination has been revealed. He explained that the contaminated soil will be removed and disposed of properly. He also updated the board on the taxi-lane project. The FAA/ADO office in Memphis has begun looking at the proposal, and approval is expected soon. The project could begin as early as October.

Selby also informed the board that the airport is planning an event for Halloween, which will be 4:30-7 p.m., Oct. 28. The event will be a trunk-or-treat with planes instead of automobiles. The event will be open to all children from any county served by the airport.
