Cassidy Keen’s baking journey has become an inspiring journey for Sparta residents. Starting as just a small hobby, it quickly catapulted in just a few years into an entire bakery. Cass’s Little Bakery has recently opened its doors here in town. Located at 206 E Bockman Way, Keen says that the success so far has been better than she could have possibly imagined.
When Keen was in high school, her culinary class called to her. In her own words, she “just picked it up and went with it.” As her talent and knack for it grew, she continued to try out new ideas. When others began to take an interest, that was when her baking journey truly began.
For about two years now, Keen has been doing requests and baking for others mostly through online means, such as Facebook. It was not until recently that her storefront operation truly began earlier this month. It has been greater than she ever imagined.
“We have been selling out almost every day,” said Keen. “It has been extremely popular, not just the orders, but people like, coming in here too. In the morning especially.”
Cass’s Little Bakery has begun catering for a wide variety of events as well. At the Library’s ribbon cutting for the mural, Rotary Club’s meetings, weddings, proms, and other school events are all catering projects the bakery has taken on in just this short time.
“I would just like to give a big thank you to the community for supporting me,” said Keen. “I’ve done it on Facebook for years, and that’s part of why I wanted to open the bakery itself. Because the community has shown up so well. I’d have to thank my family too, supporting me and just helping so much, and my friends.”
Bakeries are one of the less common types of storefronts here in Sparta, with only a small handful having operated in town over the past decade or so. With how widely successful Cassidy Keen’s has been so far, however, she and her staff are hoping to stay for many, many years to come.
