Remains Discovered at Former Water Plant

Early this morning, October 27, human remains were discovered at the old Sparta water plant on N Main Street.  Sparta Police Department are working with TBI and the District Attorney General's office. After securing permission from the landowner, Sparta Police discovered the deceased individual.

Chief Nick Dunn and Mayor Jerry Lowery gave their condolences and prayers to the deceased's family. Mayor Lowery also said, "However, its important that we allow law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation and avoid speculation until the facts are established."

Chief Dunn iterated this as well, saying, "We ask the public to refrain from speculation and respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time."

The deceased is believed by officials to be Nikkie Roberts Simmons, but there is no confirmation until the autopsy returns.  The City will share additional information as it is verified.
