School is out, but sports are in

Posted

Just because school is on summer break doesn’t mean that school sports are taking a break. It’s quite the contrary. With summer officially here now and temperatures rising, the number of sports activities are on the rise too. This time of year is an extremely active sports season as it brings summer practices, camps, and workouts for the likes of football, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer just to name a few. The coaches and players alike know that this is a great opportunity to get better as individuals and as teams.

The high school Warrior football team has been working hard on the field and in the weightroom preparing for their upcoming season. The Warriors will be trying to keep the momentum gained from an historic season that resulted in the Warriors hosting and winning a postseason game. Ramping up the practices and intensity as the season opener approaches, the Warriors will be involved in 7 on 7 competitions in July at Upperman and Jackson County as well as a scrimmage at TTU on 7/28. Similarly, the middle school Warrior football team has also been heavily engaged in weightlifting and practices and will be hosting a pre-season scrimmage on 7/27 as they get ready for their season which will begin as soon as school starts back up in August.

June was also a busy month for the high school and middle school basketball teams as they not only spent time practicing but also competing in various camps in the Middle Tennessee area. These summer camps and scrimmages provide opportunities for player and team development that will hopefully translate into better chemistry and execution when the seasons begin.

The high school baseball team held tryouts at the beginning of June and have already begun summer practices and workouts. The middle school baseball team will begin their summer practices in July.

These teams should be fun to watch once their seasons begin and they get the opportunity to compete and demonstrate what they’ve been training for.
