The WCHS Warrior football team hosted Christian Academy of Knoxville last Friday night and won in dominating fashion by a score of 41-7. The WCHS Warriors scored first and often and had lots of players involved in the action. The Warriors saw five different players find the endzone in the route of CAK including Demarious Dowell, JoJo Dowell, Tripp Pinion, Darvon Richmond, and Cole Sims.

Quarterback Tripp Pinion threw the ball extremely well, connecting on 11 of 14 passes for 197 yards including 2 touchdown passes to Darvon Richmond who caught a total of 3 passes on the night for a total of 120 yards. Pinion also ran the ball effectively rushing for 109 yards on 13 carries which included a rushing touchdown. Demarious Dowell ran the ball equally as well, rushing for 103 yards on 17 carries including a touchdown. Freshmen JoJo Dowell and Cole Sims got a chance to run the ball and capitalized on the opportunity, each finding the endzone and accumulating 80 yards between the two of them.

Defensively, Gage Stephenson had a big night recording 5 tackles, 3 of which were for a loss, and one sack. Isaiah Kelso also had 2 tackles for a loss including a quarterback sack. Owen Adams, Colton Gentry, and AJ Hunt also laid some hard hits and recorded tackles for a loss.

The win improves the Warriors overall record to 4-4 and with only two district games left, the Warriors will have some momentum going into next week’s game against Dekalb County having won two in a row. Coach Curtis Beaty said of the upcoming match up, “Big game after we get back from fall break! Dekalb County at Warrior Stadium for a shot to go back to the playoffs! We need the fans there early and the loudest they’ve ever been.” Come out and support the Warriors next Friday night, 10/20/23 which will be Senior Night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Coach Beaty also wanted to recognize Brayden Lewis as the Warriors Scout Team Player of the Week. Coach Beaty had plenty of good things to say about Brayden Lewis aka Randle.

“Not only does Randle jump in, but he is a perfect example of the perfect teammate! He will spot the ball, hold the clipboard, film, get people water, jump in at receiver and do whatever is needed for the Warriors. He is always the first to volunteer.”
