The White County High School Warriorrette bowling team had an undefeated season, winning their district before coming in second in the regional tournament last week.

“Coach Higgins and I are so proud of these girls and the fact that they were able to compete all the way to sectionals,” Coach Janice McFerrin said of her team which ultimately ended their season as runner-up at the regional tournament when they were defeated by Franklin High School during sectionals. “They have worked very hard this season and have represented White County High School very well.”

McFerrin said the girls stayed focused and continued to improve despite having to reschedule matches and limit spectator attendance due to guidelines surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Despite everything that they were faced with, they had an extremely successful season, going undefeated and winning first in the district tournament,” McFerrin said.

The district teams include Upperman High School, both Cumberland County and Stone Memorial high schools, and Jackson County High School.

Sarah Vanlandingham and Taylor Higgins competed in the state individual tournament, in Smyrna, on Jan. 20. Results were not available at the time of this post.

According to WCHS principal Greg Wilson, Higgins was entering the state tournament with a 169 average, while Vanlandingham has a 166 average.

Wilson was disappointed that he would not be able to attend the event as he has stated repeatedly that he supports all of the students and student-athletes at White County High School and wants them to know that he is proud of all of their accomplishments

McFerrin said that she hopes the Warriorettes’ success this season will encourage more student athletes to consider trying out for next year’s bowling team.

“We would like to have more students join both the girls’ and the boys’ teams,” she said.
