White County High School’s track team had a record-breaking season, and they continued their success throughout the post-season.

On May 24, Japheth Richmond earned the title of second-best high jumper in the state of Tennessee when he secured a silver medal at the State Championships, with a jump of 6 feet 4 inches.

Sparta’s “Fastest Four,” the 4x100 relay team of Javyn Strode, Christian Kelso, Jakeb Davis, and Maliki Dowell, who had spent the season writing and re-writing the school’s record books, placed fourth, bringing home a bronze medal.

“This group was a special team as a whole,” Warrior Track Coach Brian Everett said.

Everett stated that the athletes who were in post-season meets through the district tournament kept improving their times over and over.

“They really worked hard all year, to the very end,” he said. “That’s not an easy accomplishment for a spring sport.”

Everett went on to thank the graduated seniors who brought leadership to a young and promising team, while continuing to compete strongly throughout the season and post-season.

“Our graduates include Grace Jones, Elizabeth Price, Abby Welch, Dean Limper, Christian Kelso, and Javyn Strode,” Everett said, as he named the athletes his team would miss next season. “They are all great people with bright futures.”
