White County tennis teams take on Warren County

Posted

The White County tennis teams welcomed Warren County for both boys’ and girls’ tennis matches, on March 23  The Warren County teams have both been strong for several years.  The White County teams are making great progress under the guidance of local tennis pro Christopher Wiles and head coach Mixon Moore.  The courts were surrounded by fans of both teams on a wonderful evening for tennis.

The girls’ match was won by Warren County by a score of 6-3.  The final tally does not paint an accurate picture of how close the individual and doubles matches really were.  Nia Powers lost a closely contested match to the #1 seed from Warren County 6-8. Marian Swindell won her match as a #2 seed by a score of 8-4.  Kate Frasier survived a back-and-forth battle with Warren County’s #3 seed, 8-6.  The 4, 5, and 6 seeds for White County (Colwell, Bouldin, and Stone) all lost their matches against their opponents but represented themselves well with their play. White County’s final point of the girls’ matches came from a doubles win by Nia Powers and Kate Frasier.

The boys’ match was dominated by the Warriors 9-0. Gabriel Wiles won as the #1 seed 8-5.  Noah Gately used his powerful serve to cruise to an 8-3 win as a #2 seed. Max Simmons defeated the Warren County 3 seed 8-3.  Jack Bouldin won in the closest contest of the night in the battle of the 4 seeds 9-7.  John David Durfee won as a 5 seed, 8-1.  Logan Dickerson showed that the basketball court is not the only court he could win on as he won his match 8-1.  All three doubles teams pulled out victories.  Gately and Bouldin won 8-6.  Wiles and Simmons won 8-2.  Durfee and Dickerson won 8-4.

Several other student athletes were able to play exhibition matches to gain experience.  The teams battled late into the night as the crowd stayed around to cheer for both teams.  Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will be back in action April 4, at home, against Livingston Academy.
