WCMS 6th grade wins James C. Haile Tournament

WCMS Warriorettes defeat Algood 46-33

The White County Middle School 6th grade Warriorettes have represented White County basketball very well. This past week, they traveled to Middle TN Christian School to compete in the James C. Haile Tournament. White County has not won this tournament since 2013. The WCMS Warriorettes faced off with two familiar teams, Prescott South and Algood.

The first round was against Prescott South, on Jan. 13 They played a very close, exciting game. After the first, the score was 8-4 White County. At the half, the WCMS Warriorettes got ahead big and led 19-7. Ashlyn Selby and Taegan Angell both led, scoring with 4 each in the first half. During the third, Prescott came alive and made two 3s and a big And1. They outscored Sparta 14-9, making the score very close at 29-25 White County. Both teams traded buckets throughout the last quarter, but Sparta pulled away with the 39-33 win.

The first-round win sent them straight to the championship. They faced off against Algood and won 46-33. For the first quarter, Kaylee Sanders and Brooke Burke led, scoring with 4 each as the Warriorettes outscored Algood 12-7. Algood went on a big run during the second and scored 13 as Sparta scored 12. At the half, the WCMS Warriorettes were still winning 24-20. Selby again led scoring with 8 in the first half. The Warriorettes came out of the halftime and demanded that Algood be put away. They succeeded and outscored Algood 22-13 in the second half, beating them 46-33, winning the championship. Selby led scoring for her team with 13 points.
