Funeral service for George H. Furman, 83, of Sparta, was 1 p.m., Feb. 17, 2023, at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment followed in Cookeville City Cemetery. The Rev. Rob Wheeler officiated.

A Masonic service was held at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 17, at the funeral home.

With the passing of George H. Furman, there is an end to the old Long Island accent. There is also an end to a lifelong NRA member and the last of the Bull Moose Republicans. It should also be noted, he had a special love for eating raw clams.

George died Feb. 14, 2023, peacefully, at his residence.

He was born July 2, 1939, in Bayshore, New York, to George C. Furman and Marion Murray Furman.

George worked in real estate and insurance his entire life. He enjoyed working and time spent on his farm. He served as a trustee with the Manor of St. George while living in New York. He was a proud Mason and was a longtime member of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F&AM.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith “Judy” Whitson Furman; sons, George C. (Tiffany Anderson) Furman, Andrew (Dorota) Furman; grandchildren, Morgan Furman, Mia Furman, Lola Furman; a sister, Gail Moore, of Rutland, Vermont; and a brother, Joel (Cheryl) Furman, of Bellport, New York.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.
