One more season at TTU. Lacy Yslas, a 2009 graduate of White County High School and a three-sport athlete at the school, has already graduated from Tennessee Tech, but has one season left to compete in track and field for the Golden Eagles. Yslas, who is a member of the 1,000-point scoring club for the Warriorettes, is now among the top five in career bests in a couple of events for TTU. 12th place. Megan Holland just missed out on a trip to the state with her 12th place finish in the Region 3AAA cross country meet on Thursday.

The 2013 cross country season came to an end in the region tournament for both the White County and Van Buren County high school teams.
Both teams traveled to Dayton for their respective region races, which were run at Fort Bluff camp. The Region 3AAA races were the first followed by the Region 4A-AA tournaments later in the day on Thursday.

Both the White County and Van Buren County cross country teams will head to Dayton Thursday for their region meets.
The 3AAA race, which the White County team will run in, will be the first up on the day at Fort Bluff Camp. The Region 4A-AA races, which will have the Van Buren runners, are later on in the afternoon. The top three teams and the top 10 individuals earn spots in the state race.

For three years, Alex Stover and Morgan Voyles ran as teammates on the White County High School cross country team.
Two weekends ago, the duo found themselves running in the same event, but wearing different uniforms.
Stover is a sophomore runner for the UT-Martin team and Voyles is in her freshman season at Trevecca Nazarene University. Both teams competed in the Greater Louisville Classic on October 5th.

WCHS sets 4 PR’s at MSCCA

White County High School had four runners compete in the Midstate Cross Country Association championships Saturday at Sharp Springs in Smyrna and all four runners finished with new personal record times.
The highest finisher among the Sparta runners was Megan Holland, who finished eighth in the silver division race in a field of 134 runners. Holland set a new PR at 21:24.92. The new time also moved her into the top 10 times of Region 3AAA.
Ashton Mitchell improved her personal best time by more than four minutes. She finished 118th with a time of 30:20.

Backyard Invite continues through rain and mud

Off and running in the rain. The 98 boys that competed in the Backyard Invite on Saturday head down the opening stretch of the race toward the hay bales. The entire race was run in the rain making for some muddy conditions. More than 300 runners competed in the final running of the Backyard Invite.

The runners endured rain and lots of mud but were able to complete the annual Backyard Invite Saturday on the Voyles Farm.
The cross country meet is the only one ran in Sparta each year and has become quite an event. More than 300 runners converged on the farm on the rainy Saturday … CONTINUED

The White County High School cross country team traveled to Smyrna last Thursday for their second meet of the season.
The Warrior and Warriorette harriers competed in the Voyles Classic named in memory of former WCHS runner, Markie Voyles.
Thursday’s race that is the first race in the Middle Tennessee Cross Country
Association’s schedule featured a full field with runners divided into four different divisions, two each for boys and girls.
The Warriorettes ran in the Kroeger Division with 197 runners competing in that race. The Mahaney Divison, in which the Warriors ran, had 264 runners.

Light in the Dark winners. More than 140 people participated in the second annual Light in the Dark 5k with the winners pictured above. Cade Crosland was the overall winner of the race with a time of 20:38. Alex Stover was the top female finisher with a time of 21:56.

When Megan Holland sets her mind to a good cause, she finds a way to follow through with doing all she can to help that cause.

Voyles looking to add more to family legacy

Final meet in sibling legacy. Morgan Voyles (right) will compete in the 800m race at this week’s TSSAA Spring Fling and put the finishing touches on a legacy began by her sister, Markie (left). Even though the two never actually ran together, it was a torch that was passed on from sister to sister. With Morgan’s eighth trip to the TSSAA state, that brings the family total to 12. If not for a tragic automobile accident that took Markie’s life that number would have been even larger.
